Our consultation services whether online or in person is usually the first step in our emergency preparedness process. This gives us the opportunity to understand more about you and what matters most to your community or organisation. We will discuss your current emergency preparedness measures and status and identify any immediate gaps. It will also allow us to better understand your needs, experiences, challenges and priorities so we can recommend the right solutions that work best for you – whether that’s training programs, equipment, resilience-building services or a complete preparedness strategy.
Our risk assessment services is the second step in our emergency preparedness process and go beyond our initial consultation and discussions. This service is a more in-depth analysis of the risks and vulnerabilities you face and how prepared your team, community or organisation is to handle them. It involves us identifying disaster and hazards risks that are applicable to your location, community or organisation. It also includes assessing the presence of vulnerable populations including elderly, disabled or those with medical needs.
The level and degree of our risk assessments and profiling varies on a client-by-client basis. We can typically do these in several ways including by desktop analysis and research and also by an onsite assessment conducted by an emergency management professional. In this case, they will also examine and report on your local resources, support and existing systems including power, water and communication.
Whether you’re seeking funding, stakeholder buy-in or a clear emergency preparedness strategy, creating clear and compelling supporting documentation (such as project plans and business cases) is fundamental to ensuring the success of your emergency preparedness projects. We help our clients all types of supporting documentation including developing plans, strategies and business cases to support projects on all scales, from small community preparedness initiatives to larger organisational projects. Our focus is to ensure any supporting documentation is compelling, relevant, structured, clear, concise and fit for purpose.
At FIRST72, we recognise the fundamental importance of effective training programs to not only upskill but build confidence of the people preparing to respond to future emergencies and disasters. In conjunction with emergency services and other accredited civil defence professionals, we have developed a series of training programs designed to build the skills and capabilities of individuals involved in emergency management. From spontaneous volunteers looking to support community hubs to Civil Defence and emergency leaders, our programs are flexible and designed to cater to the different needs and levels of experience required in all stages of emergency management. Many of the programs are Civil Defence accredited meaning participants will be able to gain NZQA unit credit standards.
We can provide detailed reporting and updates to local Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) groups, councils, Iwi and other stakeholders involved in emergency management of any current and future preparedness work being undertaken. This information can be used to strengthen local community relationships, update existing emergency plans, and secure funding for future initiatives.
